Mumbai: After the controversial episode of “Koffee With Karan” featuring cricketers Hardik Pandya and K.L. Rahul, their colleague Ravichandran Ashwin has now shown interest in being a guest on the popular celebrity chat show hosted by filmmaker Karan Johar. On Friday, Ashwin did a #AskAsh session on Instagram where he replied to questions from his fans. During the Q and A session, when a fan asked him if would like to go to “Koffee with Karan”, he said: “Sure”. Pandya and Rahul faced a lot of flak for their comments on women when they opened up on their personal life on the latest season of the chat show, which has had guests such as actors Kareena Kapoor Khan, Deepika Padukone, Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra. Apart from receiving flak on social media, Pandya and Rahul were asked to go home from the three-ODI series against Australia in January after being suspended. Karan later said he felt “very responsible” about the repercussions Pandya and Rahul have faced since they made some misogynistic remarks on his chat show but also said he has no control over answers that come his way. When the filmmaker was asked does he think cricketers are off his list now, he quipped: “I think I am off their list.”
Jaipur: Having continued their superb form at home, Chennai Super Kings will now head to the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur to take on Rajasthan Royals in their Indian Premier League encounter on Thursday. On paper, CSK are favourites as they sit atop the points table, but then, this game is not played on paper. Having lost their previous game at home against Kolkata Knight Riders, the Royals led by Ajinkya Rahane will look to come back strongly in this encounter against M.S. Dhoni and boys. But firstly, they need to get a hang of the wicket. Having dished out a slow one in the game against KKR, they found themselves in deep trouble and considering CSK’s love for slow turners, another slow wicket will play into the visitors’ hands. Also Read – Puducherry on top after 8-wkt win over ChandigarhIn the batting department as well, too much dependence on Jos Buttler and Rahane at the top needs to go. Even though Steve Smith played a quality knock in the KKR game, his innings was pretty slow and didn’t help the team. Similarly, someone like Ben Stokes needs to be used much higher in the batting order. Considering his destructive nature, he needs to be given enough balls to face. For Chennai, the bowling is a bit of a worry in the absence of the injured Dwayne Bravo, but the others have combined well with Deepak Chahar showing great ability in Tuesday’s match against KKR. While Harbhajan Singh and Imran Tahir have been equally impressive, it is problem of plenty for Captain Cool MS. In the batting department as well, Chennai need Ambati Rayudu to fire. He has failed to recreate the form that saw him return to the national set-up after the 2018 edition of the IPL. But the determination shown by Faf du Plessis at the top in their last game holds the team in good stead. All in all, the wicket dished out will play a big role in deciding on who will hold the upper hand in this game.
NEW DELHI: Police on Saturday lodged a formal complaint against Gautam Gambhir, BJP’s East Delhi Lok Sabha seat candidate, for allegedly holding a public meeting in Jangpura without prior permission from authorities, officials said. The complaint was lodged after East Delhi Returning Officer K Mahesh asked police to take action against the cricketer-turned politician for allegedly violating rules. “We have initiated action against Gautam Gambhir under sections 28/110 of the Delhi Police Act,” Chinmoy Biswal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast), said. Gambhir did not seek prior permission to hold a public meeting in Janpura on April 25, officials said. However, Delhi BJP spokesperson Harish Khurana claimed that permission was taken for Gambhir’s event and it continued somewhat longer than the scheduled duration. Also Read – Kejriwal seeks Transport Dept’s views on odd-even exemptionThe party’s legal department will take appropriate steps in the matter, Khurana said. The Bhartiya Janta Party has pitted Gambhir against AAP’s Atishi and senior Congress leader Arvinder Singh Lovely from the East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency. Gambhir is making his electoral debut from the seat and has been under attack from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over allegations that he had double entries in voters list. Reacting to the developments, AAP’s Atishi tweeted, “”First, Discrepancies in nomination papers. Then, Criminal offence of having 2 voter IDs. Now, FIR for illegal rally (sic),” My question to Gautam Gambhir: When you don’t know the rules, why play the game? (sic) she said on Twitter. Gambhir landed in a controversy after AAP leader Atishi on Friday filed a complaint against the former cricketer and BJP candidate Gautam Gambhir for allegedly enrolling as a voter in more than one constituency in violation of the Representation of the People Act (RPA). In a petition filed on Thursday, Atishi has alleged that Gautam Gambhir had provided false information in his nomination papers. Atishi claimed that Gautam Gambhir is a registered voter in Delhi’s Karol Bagh as well as Rajinder Nagar, both of which fall under the Central Delhi parliamentary seat. The court will hear the case on May 1. Gautam Gambhir – a supporter of the BJP government’s policies – was welcomed in the party by senior leader Arun Jaitley last month. The former cricketer is one of the richest candidates in Delhi, with an annual income of over Rs 12 crore. A veteran of 58 Tests and 147 one-day internationals, Gautam Gambhir was a key member of the Indian teams that won the T20 World Cup in 2007 and the One-Day International World Cup in 2011. A vocal ambassador of the party on Twitter, his social media posts with strong comments on contemporary politics and incidents had inspired talk about his diving into politics.
The Ohio State men’s hockey team ended its weekend series with No. 6 Western Michigan on a high note with a 6-3 victory Saturday night. The Buckeyes earned four points on the weekend after tying the Broncos, 1-1, in the first game of the series on Friday. OSU (13-12-7, 12-7-5-1 CCHA) now sits tied with Ferris State for fourth place in the CCHA standings with only two weekends left in the regular season. A fourth place finish will give them a first-round home series in the playoffs on March 8. The Buckeyes scored first in both contests, with freshman forward Tyler Lundey scoring the team’s only regulation goal Friday night and junior forward Alex Szczechura scoring the first of his three goals Saturday early in the first period. Western Michigan (18-8-6, 14-6-4-2 CCHA) tied the game Saturday less than three minutes later as Broncos sophomore forward Justin Kovacs netted his second goal of the season. With 6:26 remaining, Broncos sophomore forward David Killip scored, and Western Michigan took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission. OSU sophomore forward Tanner Fritz scored his seventh goal of the season to tie the game with 8:26 left in the second, but a Western Michigan power-play goal put the Broncos back ahead, 3-2. It would be the final time they would hold the advantage in the game. In the second period, Szczechura scored his second of the game and sophomore forwards Max McCormick and Darik Angeli followed suit to put OSU ahead 5-3. Szczechura then completed his hat trick early in the third period, giving the Buckeyes the win, 6-3. It was the second time this season an OSU player scored three goals in one game, after sophomore forward Ryan Dzingel had a hat trick against Penn State in December. Szczechura has been coming up on Dzingel, OSU’s lead scorer, recently, with nine goals in the last 15 games. OSU’s top line of Szczechura, McCormick and Fritz recorded 11 points on Saturday to lead the Buckeyes. Fritz said the line-up is “clicking” right now. “We’ve had a lot of chemistry,” Fritz said. “I feel like we’re getting the bounces now and we’re really clicking as a line. It’s probably the best time for us to be doing that, going into the playoffs.” Visit www.thelantern.com for the rest of this story. The Buckeye offense has been impressive as of late, producing 28 goals in the team’s last eight games. Getting that kind of offensive production is something the entire team can feed off, Szczechura said. “Once we start scoring, all the boys are cheering for you and everyone has each other’s backs,” Szczechura said. “It just feels really good.” Broncos coach Andy Murray said he was less than pleased with his team and gave OSU full credit on the win. “When you don’t stay humble, you get humbled, and we got humbled tonight,” Murray said. “Ohio State was good tonight and we were not good enough.” Western Michigan earned an extra point in the CCHA standings on Friday night after winning the shootout, 2-1. The game was played tight the entire way, with both teams’ goals scored in the second period. “I thought that game, the two teams competed extremely hard,” said OSU coach Mark Osiecki after the tie. OSU is set to host Michigan Friday night at 6:35 p.m. at the Schottenstein Center in its final home series of the regular season.
