first_imgMahase Arjoon was on Friday sentenced to nine months in prison after he admitted to breaking into the State Assets Recovery Agency (SARA) building and stealing a quantity of items.Arjoon, who had initially denied committing the act, confessed to the charge when the matter came up for a second hearing before Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.The court heard that on between April 24 and April 25 last, Arjoon forcefully gained entry into the SARA building on Main Street, Georgetown and carted off one Del laptop computer valued $250,000, two external drives worth $40,000 and one stereo handset, valued $8000; a total of $298,000 and belonging to Troy Bentic.Bentic reported that on April 24 at about 17:00h, he secured his belongings before leaving the SARA office, where he is employed.He noted that upon returning on April 25, he observed that the locks had been tampered with and someone had gained access into the building.CCTV footage of the area later showed Arjoon as the person breaking into the building. He subsequently confessed to investigators.Arjoon is said to be a known character to Police and has had several other brushes with the law in the past.last_img
