Power-packed innings from Shikhar Dhawan and skipper Virat Kohli guided India to a comfortable nine-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in their first One Day International (ODI) at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on Sunday. India now lead the five-match series 1-0.Dhawan and Kohli forged an unbeaten 197-run stand for the second wicket to help India chase down 217 after Axar Patel’s career-best figures of 3/34 helped the visitors bowl the Lankans out for 216.WATCH FULL VIDEOTalking about the run chase, former India captain Sourav Ganguly said that the difference between the two sides is massive and it’s going to be cakewalk for the Indians just like the three-match Test series that they won 3-0. (Shikhar Dhawan continues golden run in Sri Lanka with 11th ODI hundred)”They just finished it in 28 overs. It just shows the quality of the Sri Lankan attack. It’s been a one-sided series from Day 1 and it’s going to go that way because I don’t see any respite for Sri Lanka.”The gap between the two sides is too much. The quality of the Indian side and the quality of the Sri Lankan side is like chalk and cheese,” Ganguly told India Today. (Virat Kohli completes 4000 ODI runs in successful chases for India)The home side were 139/1 from 24.3 overs before losing 9 wickets for 77 runs. Coming out to bowl, the Lankans got Rohit Sharma out early thanks to a run-out but then failed to take a single wicket after that.Ganguly said that the Sri Lankan bowling attack is just not good enough and like the Test matches, they will find it difficult to get the Indian batsmen out.advertisement”Sri Lanka will find it very very hard to pick wickets. Even in the Test matches they were finding it difficult. Today they just rolled over Sri Lanka. The last 100 runs must have come off 50 or 60 deliveries and we’re not surprised,” he said. His form in one-day cricket has been terrific for the past five-six years. Whether you go to Australia, England and now in Sri Lanka. He enjoys batting in this format, he has got tremendous faith in his abilities.”He knows how to pace the innings and it was another exponent of a typical Shikhar Dhawan type of an innings. It was great to watch. The attack maybe mediocre but you still got to get runs on the board, still have to get runs to get a 100 and I think he has done exceptionally well,” Ganguly added. However, the 45-year-old rated Dhawan’s Test hundreds higher than his tons in one-day cricket.”For me his Test hundreds will be more special than his one-day hundreds because his Test performances haven’t been best for the last couple of years. In and out, dropped on overseas tour, he has found life hard when he has gone away from the sub-continent but to come back from nowhere and get those two hundreds in those three Test matches…I thought was a bit more special,” said the Prince of [email protected] gets the Man of the Match award for his knock of 132* off 90 balls #SLvIND pic.twitter.com/Wl9grYlefq- BCCI (@BCCI) August 20, 2017Sri Lanka and India will play the second ODI at Pallekele on August 24.
